Decision to acquire aircraft within three months: Yami
Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation has said that government is committed to buying at least two aircraft for the ailing national flag carrier-Nepal Airlines Corporation.

Two rafters injured
Two Israeli rafters were injured when their boat overturned while rafting in Kaligandaki River near Maldhunga in Baglung district on October 14. According to police, the boat overturned at around 3 AM yesterday when it hit a rock in the river.

SOTTO Nepal officially launched
Society of Travel and Tour Operators Nepal (SOTTO-Nepal) was officially launched amidst a programme organized on September 25 in Kathmandu. Launching the association of travel agents in the country, Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Hisila Yami asked the tour operators to bring in more visitors to the country by fostering friendly relations with Non-Resident Nepalis. Lauding private sector’s role in tourism development in the country, Minister Yami said that the government has adopted a policy facilitating the private sector.

World Tourism Day celebrated
The 29th World Tourism Day was celebrated on September 27 by organizing different programmes and activities throughout the country. At a main programme organized on September 26, Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation and Nepal Tourism Board celebrated different organizations and individuals for their contribution in tourism sector. A monograph on ‘Tourism Products of Nepal’ was also launched on the same programme. The monograph compiles detailed information on different tourism destinations throughout the country. Likewise, NTB also handed over a special office area for Tourist Police in NTB premises.

Wilderness first-aid course concludes
A five-day ‘Wilderness First-Aid Course’ organised by Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP) from September 21 concluded on September 25 in Kathmandu. The training was organised for trekking guide so that they themselves could provide basic treatment during their treks. A total of 36 trekking guides participated in the training. The five days course would be effective to provide primary treatment to foreign visitors, the organisers said.

Nepal participates in PATA Travel Mart
Nepal Tourism Board and six other private companies participated in the 35th Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Travel Mart 2008 held in Hyderabad, India, from September 17-19. “Claimed as one of the Asia Pacific’s best travel networking shows for the travel trade buyers and sellers, PTM08 attracted some 1,089 trade delegates, comprising 374 global buyers from 324 organisations and 715 Asia Pacific seller delegates from 301 organisations. The show was also visited by dozens of international media delegates and hundreds of local trade visitors,” reads a press release issued by NTB.
