Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking is one of the famous trekking routes in Nepal for both teahouse and organized. The highest point of this trek is 3210 meters. Ghorepani trek offers a wonderful opportunity to witness the beauty of the Annapurna region with a shorter trek. This place is rich of veiled treasure of Nepalese traditions and custom. During trek the trail passes through world’s famous ‘The Gorkha Warrior’ tribe the Gurung and Magar’s charming villages, dense Rhododendron (National Flower of Nepal), Oak forest with varieties of birds, green hills and patchwork valleys. Just about every outlook is an enticing glimpse of Mt. Fishtail (6,993m.) Annapurna (8,091m.) and Dhaulagiri (8,167m.) range on the initial part of the tour is awesome. On an excursion to Poon Hill one can observe the entire mountain ranges; covering red and pink rays of the Sun in full bloom at the Sunset and Sunrise. Drive Kathmandu / Pokhara (820m), (6 hours drive). Overnight stay at hotel.

Early morning after breakfast board a bus and drive to Pokhara. It’s a drive of about six hours through lush green forest, meandering road through the hills and graciously flowing rivers. You will cross lively markets and clusters of villages on the road side. Lunch will be taken in one of the road side restaurants on the way to Pokhara. Upon reaching in Pokhara, you will be received and driven to the hotel. Check into the hotel in Pokhara.

Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul. Trek to Ulleri (1960 m.) – 4 to 5 hrs walk.

After breakfast, take one hour drive to Nayapul. After reaching Nayapul you will start your trekking. After 30-minutes walking along the Modi stream, you will reach at Birethanti – a gorgeous village that has plenty of tea shops and guest houses. Then follow the left direction through the village. Your trek continues heading to Ulleri along the bank of the Burungdi stream. You will hike up to the valley of Hile (1495 meters) and Tikhedhunga (1525 meters). The trail leads steep up to Ulleri (2073 meters), a large stunning Magar village. Ulleri is stopping point for today.

Trek Ulleri / Ghorepani (2750 m.) – 5 to 6 hrs walk.

We continue walking making sure that we’re always on the inside of the path, thereby permitting the donkeys to pass through. Occasional views of the peaks give way to a narrower valley. We then proceed through Rhododendron forest and eventually reach to Ghorepani. It is a beautiful place from where we can enjoy the most spectacular views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range.

Morning, excursion to Poon hill (3210 m.) and trek to Tadapani (2590 m.) – 6 to 7 hrs walk.

Early morning, we will climb for one hour to Poon hill. It is one of the most popular trekking area in Nepal. It is situated at an altitude of 3210 meters from where we can see the tremendous views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range. After appreciative views and taking a good pause, we trek down to Ghorepani village and have breakfast and proceed to Tadapani.

From Ghorepani the trail climbs south following a path through dense forests. It finally emerges on a grassy knoll which offers perfect mountain views, including sight of Machhapuchre and a panorama all the way south to the plains of India. The area is quite alike to that of Poon Hill. Keep climbing along the ridge all the way through pine and rhododendron forests to a ridge at 3030 m, and then descent to two bars, a second pass also known as Deurail at 2960m. The trail then descends sharply to a stream before the hiking resume, going through a forest to Tadapani. Overnight stay at the lodge.

Tadapani / Ghandrung (1940 m.) – 3 hrs walk.

From Tadapani the trail descends through stunning forests to Ghandruk, which is a beautiful village of Gurung people, one of Nepal’s most popular ethnic groups, known for their distinctive language, culture, customs and life style. It is also home to many soldiers from the famous Gurkhali regiments. From here we can have stunning views of Annapurna South,Annapurna III, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna and Fishtail.

Trek Ghandruk / Pothana (1900 m.) – 5 to 6 hrs walk.

We descent down through stone steps of Ghandruk village and pass several tea houses on the way. After crossing the stream on a suspension bridge the trail drops in to the Modi Khola valley and reaches Landruk-Tolka and ascent around 2 hours to Pothana.

Trek, Pothana / Phedi (approx. 2 hrs walk) and drive to Pokhara.

This day after walking 2 hours we will reach to Phedi. On the way to Phedi from Pothana we will see parts of Mount Annapurna range and Gurung village. After one hour drive from Phedi we will reach to Pokhara. Overnight at hotel.

Drive Pokhara / Kathmandu

It takes about 4 – 5 hours to drive back to Kathmandu crossing over some mountain passes and rivers along the way. We enjoy a farewell dinner and reflect on a great adventure in Kathmandu in the evening organized by Nature Trail.

The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek, also known as “Annapurna Mini Circuit, or Annapurna Loop Trekking” is a short trekking route of Annpurna Conservation area in Nepal. It is a beautiful short trekking starting from Pokhara after 2 hours’ drive to Nayapul (new bridge), and end at same place or Phedi, before you drive and end at Pokhara.  Gorepani Poon Hill trekking consider as most beautiful short trekking route to view (from Poon Hill) of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain range and other neighboring mountain within a week or less amount of days.

The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is easily accessible from Pokhara and one can comfortably complete within 5 days’ time however, if you have more time it can be added up to 7 days or even more days combing Jhinu Danda, Landruk, Tolkha, Dampus areas or can complete less than 5 days as well.  Of course, based on your timeframe, Nature Trail can tailor-made the itinerary, and happy to organise accordingly.

The altitude at Poon Hill is (3210m) and it offers a spectacular panoramic view of whole Annapurna range including Annapurna I, Annapurna II, Annapurna South, Mount Nilgiri, Tukuche Peak, Dhampus Peak, Butterfly Peak (mountain), Himchuli, Gangapurna, Lamjung Himal, and Manaslu Ranges. Poon Hill is also one of the best place to enjoy the panoramic views of Mt. Dhaulagiri range.

Even you are planning to trek Annapurna Base Camp, and if you could manage some extra days, you can include Gorepani Poon Hill trek as it is a part of the Annapurna Base Camp trek, which can be done 12 to 14 days timeframe. Poon Hill is just over 3000m of its altitude, no need to worry about AMS (Acute mountain sickness), neither need big preparation for the trek nor physically demanding. Anyone can do this trek who has less than a week time, or has no time for preparation.

In this itinerary we have plan a trip 8 days Ghorepani Poon Hill trek starting from Kathmandu and end at Kathmandu. If you have more time, of course as we mentioned above, or you could enjoy in Pokhara adding few more days before or after the trek. Or you could take both way flights to Pokhara and return, can make 2 less in our given itinerary.  If you wish to shorter the trek, you could fly to Pokhara. It is just 25 minutes flight to Pokhara from Kathmandu and on same day you could drive to Nayapul and start your trek and easily can reach to Ulleri or Tikhedhunga within 5 hours walk.  In this way, on your second day, you could reach to Ghorepani and thirdly you can stay overnight at Tadapani with early morning sightseeing/viewing sunrise + mountain views from Poon hill.  This Ghorepani Poon Hill is also known as “Annapurna Sunrise trekking”. This trek is suitable for who want to experience the massif Annapurna range and its magnificence views, but without a long. This trek provide an up-close and panoramic view of Annapurna Himalayan ranges starting from Api Saipal area up to Ganesh Himal.

Best Season for Poon Hill Trekking: 
Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking can be done almost throughout the year. Well of course, views are always different on every season or month you trek. If you are in March/April, you can enjoy with Rhododendron flower, if you are in December/January you could enjoy clear white snow in Poon Hill and Ghorepani. If you October/November, you can enjoy mountain view and weather will be neither hot nor cold. In the month of May/June, it is child weather and can escape the hot temperature of the Kathmandu or Pokhara, but it is still cool to walk around in this trek with shadow or rhododendron forest. So, we organize around the year this trek and every time you trek. These are the reason Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking consider as one of the most popular trek on can enjoy all seasons.

Things to bring for Poon Hill Trek
Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is a moderate short trek of Annapurna Conservation area. You do not require big preparation for this trek as along the way all the evening you will have lodges/teahouse to accommodate and food are available. Still this trekking route offer nice camping grounds so you can also do fully catered camping trek. If you wish to do camping trek or want to do couple of days camping and other days you wish to stay in the lodge, that’s fine and Nature Trail happy to arrange semi-camping packages on your request.

Here below list of equipment and essentials which are useful to remember while preparing for the trek. Pleans note that Nature Trail’s standard weight for our porter is 25kg per porter. So, while preparing bagpack, make sure that your rucksack should not exceed 25 kg and rest of the things you may keep in your day bag. About the clothing, keep in mind that what a month you are trekking in. For example, if you are in the month of December or January, you need a warm down jacket, but if you are trekking in April May, a pullover with windbreaker (including cap) will be fine or just a light jacket will work. Besides this, see below some list of equipment you may considering of taking along.

Cultural Aspects of Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek:
Ghorepani Poon Hill trek offer mixed cultural experiences. Ghorepani and Poon Hill area are more likely dominated by Gurung and Magar community. Also, lots of Ghorkha Army family lives around this area and sometime you will see some of some of them on their holidays. It is also beautiful to see farmer and their farmland on the way and their houses, their cattle, and way of their day to day life. Walking through the forest of rhododendron add extra excitement while walking. Such short period of time, seeing all those things makes this trek a “lifetime experience”.  Ulleri, Ghorepani and Ghandruk are the main villages of this trek and all these villages has their own style of houses and live hood.

In addition to that, on cultural aspect of this Poon Hill trekking, we can summaries as trekkers witness terraced slopes, warm villages, beautiful paddy fields, and wonderful culture and lifestyle of ethnic people like Gurungs, and Magars of Annapurna Region. Here after if you continued further to Annapurna Base Camp, you will have less and less people or villages around.
