Round The Year
17 Days

Arun valley lies in the Makalu-Barun National park, between the  Sagarmatha and Makalu mountain regions. It is not only a picturesque, but also a diverse region with stunning terraced landscapes and prosperous wilderness. Especially interesting is Arun Valley for its peacefulness: It is a much less touristy area and an exceptional route, which has been discovered by Nature Trail trekking team who loves to walk through the isolated valleys and hidden valleys since more than 23 years.

The trek begins from Tumlingtar after an hour’s flight from Kathmandu and makes a half loop in the region ending the trek in Lukla. During the trek, you cross various ethnic settlements of Rai, Sherpa and Limbu people. In addition, Arun Valley offers an amazing trekking experience and the beauty of the natural paradise of eastern Nepal. Some incredible views of Mt. Everest, Thamserku, Makalu, Ama Dablam and the surrounding peaks offer deep magnetism to enliven your sharp imagination. The route of trekking in the Arun Valley is mysterious and extremely panoramic, with the natural jewel of lush hills and rhododendron forest. Moreover, the fluttering prayer flags offer a feeling of mysticism and tranquility. Then, from Paiyan, the trek joins with the usual route of the Everest region trekking and concludes at Lukla.

Fly Kathmandu - Tumlingtar (450m) 1 hour

We fly from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar today to start the trek in the Arun valley. It is the flight of about an hour with picturesque views of lush hills, gorges and eastern Himalayas. We are spending full day today at Tumlingtar. Transfer to hotel and take an exploration tour around. Overnight at the hotel

Trekking Tumlingtar - Marduna (1200m)

We commence our trek today after breakfast. We follow the trail alongside Arun River. We head northward and stop for our lunch at Baluwabesi. The surrounding is really exciting and the view is unbelievable. After the lunch, we trek further through the dense woods to Marduna. Overnight at teahouse/lodge.

Walking time: 5-6 hours

Trekking Marduna - Dobani (975m)

After breakfast, we climb up to the hill through the forest. View of green forest and gorge entices us to walk further. It is less explored and only few trekkers have gained this opportunity to get the fascinating views of Arun valley. From the top of the hill, we trek down to Chikhuwa Khola and stop for lunch at Ghote Bazaar, a small settlement with some hotels. Then, we steadily trek to Dobani. Overnight at teahouse/lodge.

Walking time: 4-5 hours

Trekking Dobani - Salpa Phedi (1700m)

It is a pretty tough day for us to climb up all the way uphill gaining about 700 meters of elevation. We cross many small streams and have our lunch at Tallo Phedi. Then we prepare to climb up further to Salpa Phedi, our campsite for today. Salpa Phedi has got some basic but good teahouses, and amazing hospitality. Overnight at teahouse/lodge.

Walking time: 5-6

Trekking Salpa Phedi - Guranse (2920m)

After an early breakfast, we hike up to the top of the hill through the rocky and tough trail. Still, the views are tranquil and breathtaking. When we walk in the woods, it’s going to help us stay cool. The landscape is dominated by the colorful grassy lands and open meadows. Heading through the rhododendron forest, we rarely meet human settlements. When we reach Guranse, we are going to gain about 1200 meters of elevation.

Walking time: 5-6 hours

Trekking Guranse - Sanam (2650m)

We are dealing with a tough trail and should cross a pass named Salpa La. After a steady ascent from Guranse, we cross the Salpa La pass at 3350 meters and continually trek down through the rhododendron forest and reach Dhaka. We can have some menu options here for the lunch and take a rest for a while. We descend for a while and then walk slightly uphill to our today’s campsite at Sanam where we stay in nice lodges. Overnight at teahouse/lodge.

Walking time: 5-6 hours

Trekking Sanam - Bung (1700m)

It is relatively difficult to trek down through the steep trail so we start early and walk with a gradual pace and reach our lunch stop at Guidel and still trek down to Hongu Khola. After we cross the bridge, we climb steadily up through the terraced lush hill and further ahead to a tiny Rai village at Bung. They are one of the ethnic castes of Nepal. Overnight at teahouse/lodge.

Walking time: 5-6 hours

Trekking Bung - Boskam Gompa

We are tired enough with a several days walk so relatively shorter walk today is really appreciable. Today we walk for 3-4 hours straight uphill to Boksam Gompa. Boskam Gompa is our lunch stop and also our campsite for the day. It is a striking village with the religious spirits. We spend the whole day walking around the village and exploring the cultural and spiritual aspects of the local people. Overnight at teahouse/lodge.

Walking time: 3-4 hours

Trekking Boskam - Vasme

We trek to Vasme today. We pass Gaikharka crossing the pasture through the untidy jungle and the main trail leads us across Hinku Khola. Crossing a long suspension bridge over Hinku Khola, we climb up to the vertical valley of Sibuje, also known as Vasme. Overnight at the teahouse/lodge.

Walking time: 5-6 hours

Trekking Vasme - Pangum

We begin the trek passing the tiny Vasme village and the trail leads us through the rhododendron forest. Pangum La Pass lies on the trail today to cross past. We get some awesome sights of the snow covered Mera peak and several other mountain peaks in the region. Walking a bit further, we reach to the picturesque valley at Pangum. Local people offer wonderful hospitality as it is less touristy area. They have rich and unique cultural traditions. Overnight at the teahouse/lodge.

Walking time: 5-6 hours

Trekking Pangum - Paiyan

It’s a final day of walking through the isolated mountain foothill of Arun valley. We are going to meet the Everest region trail today. After a slight trek down, we climb up for the last steep and challenging trail. Crossing the Kari La Pass at 3145m and having lunch at the top, we climb down through the steep trail and conclude our trek at Paiyan. Overnight at the teahouse/lodge.

Walking time: 5-6 hours

Trekking Paiyan - Lukla

We leave Paiyan, a beautiful village overlooking a tiny tributary of the Dhud Kosi River. Today, we are going to walk to Lukla. We begin trekking down; then head uphill and pass various Sherpa valley. We cross a steel bridge over Thado Koshi River. Arriving at Lukla, we get refreshed and end our tiresome and exciting trekking. Overnight at the teahouse/lodge.

Walking time: 6 hours
