Karbakeli Eco Trek is a new trekking route in the Annapurna region, which connects Poon Hill, Phulbari and Karbakeli with Beni Bazaar, the headquarters of the Myagdi district. The Karbekeli Eco Trekking trekking route is explored in April 2018, together with the cooperation of Concept Nepal by the Karbakeli Conservation Committee located in the Annapurna Rural Municipality.

The Karbakeli Eco trekking route provides you with stunning views of the Gurja Mountain, Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna Himalayan range. Further, biological diversity and the combination of art and culture of the local community make this trek very special. Karbakeli trekking is ideal for those who want to enjoying the rural lifestyle of Nepal. Wandering in the area of Karbakeli Baba and his temple awakens spiritual vibes in your mind and lets you discover the Nepali spirituality. Locals have established a tourism management committee here to develop and promote the trekking route. Natural beauty, local culture and warm hospitality are the main features of the Karbakeli Eco Trek.

Poon Hill is a popular viewpoint reachable from Ghorepani. You will see the whole Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range, including beautiful Machhapuchhre. The best time to visit this place is the early morning to witness how the sun slowly lights up peak after peak and covers them in golden light. Sunrise from Poon Hill is surely a magical and unforgettable experience.

Drive to Birethani, trek to Ulleri

After breakfast, we take a bus or jeep to Birethani, which takes around 2 hours. From there we will start our trek.  We are heading to Ulleri along the bank of the Burundi stream. You will hike up to the valley of Hile and Tikhedhunga. The last part of today’s trail leads steep up to Ulleri, a large stunning Magar village, where we stay overnight.

Walking time: 5 hours


Ulleri to Ghorepani

We continue walking, making sure that we’re always on the inside of the path, thereby permitting the donkeys to pass through. Occasional views of the peaks give way to a narrower valley. We then proceed through Rhododendron forest and eventually reach Ghorepani. It is a beautiful place from where we can enjoy the most spectacular views of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges.

Poon Hill, then trek to Karbakeli Than

Early morning, we will climb up for one hour to Poon Hill. It is one of the most popular sunrise spots in Nepal. Poon Hill is situated at an altitude of 3210 meters from where we can see the tremendous views of Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna range. After appreciating the golden mountains and taking a good pause, we trek down to Phulbari then Karbakeli Than.

Walking time: 5 hours


Trek to Baiseri, and drive to Beni (30m)

It takes 3 hours walk from Karbakeli Than down to Baiseri. The way is steep down. Going down one can observe the ‘Nau Kune’ Stone which is related to Karbakeli Baba. On the way, there are tea shops in Jhumre Kharka and in Kaule. After crossing the suspension bridge from Baiseri, we reach the Beni-Jomsom road. From here Beni Bazaar is 9 km away.

Walking time: 3 hours


Explore Beni, drive back to Pokhara

After exploring Beni in the morning, we drive back to Pokhara which takes about 3 hours. Evening you could enjoy scrolling around Lake side area, overnight in hotel. 

Option I


Karbakeli Than to Baiseri via Rima and Aula

Baiseri also can be reached from Karbakeli by  Rima and Aula village. It takes two and half hours to reach Rima and another one hour walk to Aula from Rima. From Aula to Baiseri takes two hours.

Baiseri to Pokhara via Beni

Early morning we start our journey back to Pokhara with a total drive of 3 hours and 30 minutes. The rest of the day can be enjoyed in Pokhara.

Option II


Karbakeli Than to Beni via Maha Bhir, Bhans Kharka and Mallaj

Beni Bazaar can be reached through BansKharka and Mallaj from Karbakeli Than. It takes one and half hour to reach Mahavir and two hours trekking to BansKharka from there. BansKharka of Parbat district is famous for its oranges. From there Mallaj is two hours away and another one hour trek to Beni.

Walking time: 6 hours


Explore Beni and drive to Pokhara

Early morning we start our journey back to Pokhara with a total drive of 3 hours. The rest of the day can be enjoyed in Pokhara.

Option III


Karbakeli Than to Falame Danda via Ramche and Nagi (Falame Hill Trek)

Beni can be reached from Karbakeli Than through Falame Danda. There is a way to Ramche Village and to Nagi. It takes one hour to reach Ramche from Karbakeli and two hours to Nagi from Ramche. Falame Danda takes 2 hours from Nagi. You can stay a night there and it takes three and half hour straight down to Beni. Going up to Falame Danda from Beni takes four and half hours.

Falame Danda to Beni via Mallaj

Today we walk down to Mallaj and from there it is another one hour trek to Beni.

Explore Beni and drive to Pokhara

Early morning we start our journey back to Pokhara with a total drive of 3 hours. The rest of the day can be enjoyed in Pokhara.

Poon Hill (3210m)

Poonhill  is famous to watch Himalaya range, sunset and sunrise. From this hill Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Macchapucchre and many other ranges of Mountains can be seen. During sunset the golden light kisses the mountains, creating an enthralling scene.

A tower is there in the top of the hill in the memory of Major Tek Bahadur Poon. In the morning tea and coffee will be available. There are hotels and lodge downhill in Ghorepani.

There are around 50 beautiful houses in Ghorepani (2874m) with colorful tin roofs. Each house is a hotel or a restaurant. Clean hotel with cold-hot water facilities and menu ranges from Dal Bhat to Pizza.

Phulbari (2925m)

Phulbari literally means flower garden. This place is filled with colorful flowers. From Phulbari Himchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Baraha Mountain, Nilgiri South, Dhampus Peek, Tukuche Peek, Dhaulagiri and Gurja Mountain appears in a line.

Phulbari is also a base camp of Poonhill. It is located at south west of Poonhill. It takes one hour to reach the Poonhill from Phulbari. There are dense forests of Rhododendron. They are filled with many types of rhododendron. Lhophoporus and Munal produce different kinds of sounds. Even, deer can be seen in the forest.

Making Phulbari center one can trek to many places. For example, Karbakeli, Nagi, Khopra, Mahare Danda, Naka and Shikh can be reached from Phulbari.

Five families live in Phulbari. Yama Poon is running Phulbai Guest House and Gum Maya Poon is running Hotel Annapurna.

Karbakeli Than can be reached from Phulbari in five hours.

Karbakeli Than

Karbakeli baba is the deity of the people living in western Nepal. His temple has been established at Ramchan Kulchan Danda(2332m) of Kafal Danda, Annapurna Rural Municipality-8 in Myagdi district.

There are full sized statues of Karbakeli baba, his two wives Himala and Fimala, two sons Ramchan and Kulchan inside the Than (temple). This temple is established in the initiation of Karbakeli Investigation Committee, Kathmandu and in co-operation of Karbakeli baba Conservation Committee, Kafal Danda.

There is a Guest house near the temple. And they are planning to build a Poon museum nearby.

Dhaulagiri mountain can be seen really close from the temple. Beni Bazaar-Rima-Kafal Dada-Karbakeli temple is a 45 km route. One can travel in Jeep. Or, after a 9 km Beni-Baiseri Jeep travel Karbakeli temple can be reached by 4 hour trek from Baiseri.

Falame Dada (2350m)

Because of iron like stones this hill of Parbat district is named Falame Dada. Dhaulagiri, Manapathi, Nilgiri, Annapurna, Macchapuchhere etc. Mountains can be seen linearly. This cool hill station has few hotels. People of Poon community live in these areas. Villages like Lopre, Kuwapani, Ohkreni, Danda Kateri, Banbade are located here. Villagers are enjoying agriculture and livestock farming. Potato is a good product. Cultural songs like Shorathi, Yanimaya, Shirfule, Salaijo are the main attraction of this place. A view tower in Falame Danda has been planning. It is located at 12 km north east from Beni Bazaar. It is a 4 hours trekking route. Also a good road touches the hill. One can reach Falame Dada from Nagi, and Nagi from Karbakali Than. Karbakeli Than-Falame Danda-Beni Bazaar route has been named ‘Falame hill trek’.


In the bank of Kaligandaki and Myagdi river Beni Bazaar is spread north and west. One time, Beni Bazaar was only known as Entrance of Muktinath. The fact is, Beni itself is a tourist destination. On May 8, 2014 Nepal government declared Beni Municipality expanding its geographical area by merging Arthunge, Singa, Ghatan, Ratnechaur, Jyamrukkot, PotleKhet, Bhakimle and Pulachaur.

Beni has many historical places. Dholnath an ancient capital of Parbat Estate, Kot Bhandar, Singa Tatopani Kunda, Jyamrukkot, Cavehill, Lovelyhill, Sworgashram etc. Also, it has many religious places like Galeshowr Dham, Jagannath Temple, Maharani Than, Beni Stup, Nawadurga Temple, Bhartibom Shivalaya, Pulatsya Pulashram and Balmukteshwor etc.

Beni is also famous as a spiritual destination. Chettri, Magar, Poon community, Chantyal, Newar, Brahmin, BK, Thakali and people of other castes are living together in Beni. It is a garden of ethnic diversity.

Beni is known as the gateway of adventurous trekkers. From Beni one can travel along Dhaulagiri Century Trekking route, Gurja Trekking route, Khopra Trekking route, Karbakeli Trekking route and Gurilla Trekking route. Beni is 282 km far from Kathmandu. Hotels and lodges are easily available.
