After spending a full day sightseeing around Kathmandu, we will take a scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu to the airstrip of Lukla – the gateway to Khumbu and entire Everest region. From Lukla we will start our trek on a trail that passes through several villages inhabited mainly by Sherpa communities. Our trek goes along dense forest filled with rhododendron and pine trees towards Namche Bazaar – The Sherpa Capital. After spending a good day acclimatization at Namche Bazaar we will follow the trail that passes through Thame and head towards Kwangde Base Camp. We will set up one more camp at the high camp before heading towards the actual summit.

Properly acclimatized and fully equipped with all the necessary climbing gears we will follow the footsteps and guidance of our experienced climbing experts in order to overcome the challenges and technical sections. Once at the top we are rewarded with great views of world’s towering mountains including Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and the Rolwaling Himalayan Ranges. Click here for detailed information about World Heritage Sites of UNESCO in Kathmandu
Today we will spend most of our day sightseeing around some of the world heritage sites of UNESCO inside Kathmandu valley. Most importantly we will complete all the necessary paper works and make other preparations required for Kwangde Peak Climbing.
Note: It is not possible to visit all world heritage sites in Kathmandu within a day. So you can choose at least 3-4 places for a day sightseeing.

Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla & Trek to Phakding

After having our breakfast at the hotel, we will be transferred to domestic airport for a early morning scenic flight to the airstrip of Lukla. Lukla is the gateway to Khumbu and entire Everest region of Nepal. After landing at the airport, we collect our bag packs and start our trek by following the trail that is a gradual uphill trekking along the left bank of Dudh Koshi river. Over trek continues passing through scrubby pine forest and painted mani walls towards Phakding.

Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar

Leaving Phakding we start our trekking by crossing a long suspension bridge and follow an undulating trail towards Benkar. From there we head towards crossing Dudh Koshi river once again before climbing to a small village of Monjo. We continue our uphill trekking passing through dense rhododendron forest towards Sagarmatha National Park entry post. After registration at the entry post we descend on stone steps to another suspension bridge before making a long climb to Namche Bazaar. There is a police check post before entering Namche where we must register.

A day for rest at Namche Bazaar – for Acclimatization.

By now we have reached over 3000 meters above the sea level. Thus, acclimatization is very necessary to avoid mental and physical sickness and to ensure successful summit climb of Kwangde Peak. Namche is an extensive market town where there is always something to see and places to explore. It is an ideal place to spend a rest day for acclimatization at the high altitude before heading off towards Thame. For acclimatization we can walk upto Khunde Hospital which was set-up by Sir Edmund Hillary, or a one hour walk up to the Syangboche 3800m for mesmerizing view of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Kusum Kangaru. There are also good views from the National Park Centre and Museum just above the town.

Trek from Namche Bazaar to Thame

After spending a full day exploring around Namche Bazaar, we will follow the route that turns west and heads up the Bhote Koshi valley. Our trek passes along several mani walls, carved stones and prayers flags, all representing the ancient Tibetan Buddhist culture. Our trail descends down to Bhote Koshi river before climbing towards Thame. Thame Gompa is situated above the village and is the site for spring celebration of Mani Rimdu festival. We will spend our overnight at Thame.

Trek from Thame to Kwangde Peak Base Camp

Leaving Thame we will follow the trail that is a gradual ascend all the way towards Kwangde Peak Base Camp. After few hours of trekking we will enter the harsh alpine vegetation and to a good camping site where we will set up our Base Camp for Kwangde Peak Climbing.

Acclimatization day at Kwangde Peak Base Camp

Proper acclimatization is very crucial in higher altitudes. Altitude sickness can create obstacles in reaching the summit of Kwangde Peak. Thus, we will take it easy and spend our day exploring around the base camp or may be do some hiking/climbing that is best for acclimatization.

Ascend from Base Camp to High Camp

After spending a full day acclimatization rest at the base camp, we continue our trekking into higher altitudes. It is a short day trekking but can be very tiring as we follow an uphill trail that is covered with snow and ice most of the time. Using our crampons we head towards a good camping site at 5,200 meters where we will set up our high camp. Once we reach the campsite, our Sherpa will quickly set up the camps and make necessary checks on our health conditions and all the climbing gears needed for the main summit climb, the following day.

Summit Kwangde Peak 6187m and back to Base Camp

Today is our main day as we will make an attempt to achieve our target summit of Kwangde Peak. Fully acclimatized and properly equipped we start early with the aim to reach the summit before midday, as the strong winds after noon can create problems for us to reach the summit. So, following the footsteps and instructions of our experienced climbing guides we will overcome several technical challenges and head towards the summit of Kwangde Peak. Our tiring climb to the summit is rewarded with breathtaking views of Mt Everest, Mt Makalu, Mt Cho Oyu, Mt Lhotse, Rolwaling mountain ranges and countless number of snow capped peaks. We will spend short quality time at the summit and then descend following the same route back and head back to reach the base camp.

Trek from Kwangde Base Camp to Namche Bazaar

After successfully achieving the summit of Kwangde Peak, we will retrace our footsteps for our return journey. Gently descending from the alpine vegetation we trek passing through Thame and continue our trek until we arrive at Namche Bazaar.

Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla

The last day of our trek leads from Namche Bazaar via Monjo to Lukla. Our trek is a pleasant walk that goes along dense rhododendron forest, except for few short uphill climbs and then down to the Bhote- Koshi River crossing it three times. The last uphill climb of around forty five minutes will bring us back to Lukla. We will celebrate the successful completion of our Kwangde Peak Climbing with our crew when we arrive at Lukla.

Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu then transfer to Hotel

After having our breakfast, we will take an early morning scenic flight from Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu. After arriving at Kathmandu, you will be transferred to the hotel. You can either have rest at Hotel or pay a visit to attraction destination (world heritage sites of UNESCO) sites that weren’t possible on the second day of the trip. Walking around the busy streets of Kathmandu can be worth spending good time around Kathmandu city.

Leisure day in Kathmandu

You would surely like to see as much of Kathmandu as possible. An early start is practical to visit the temples of Kathmandu. Also, walking around the shopping area of Thamel is worth spending quality time at Kathmandu. We will celebrate the successful completion of our Kwangde Peak Climbing and have a final meal together in the evening.
